Why Choose Savannah Vet?

We are experts at diagnosing and treating your pet’s illness.

As board-certified veterinary internal medicine specialists, we have expertise in diagnosing and treating dogs and cats with complex chronic or acute internal medicine conditions–GI issues (IBD/stomach problems), liver disorders, UTIs, and more. In fact, we’re the most experienced animal hospital in Southeast Georgia serving Savannah and the surrounding areas of Pooler, Wilmington Island, Skidaway Island, Tybee Island, Richmond Hill, Hinesville, Statesboro, Brunswick, Bluffton, Hardeeville, and Hilton Head Island.

Veterinary Internal Medicine Services

We have the specialized equipment and knowledge to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions affecting dogs’ and cats’ internal organ systems. Our services include:

One-On-One
Specialist
Consultation

As pet parents ourselves, we know just how worrisome unexplained symptoms or an unfamiliar diagnosis can be. And as veterinary professionals, we know just how important it is for our team to understand your pet’s condition and symptoms from your perspective. That’s why all appointments at Savannah Vet start with an in-person consultation with a veterinary specialist. These one-on-one conversations allow us to gather crucial information about your pet from the person who knows them best–you–before we make any testing or treatment recommendations. We will listen to your concerns and involve you in your pet’s testing or treatment plan every step of the way.

Pet Endoscopy

Some health problems require a look inside your pet’s body to better understand their situation. Endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that allows us to inspect an organ and obtain tissue samples (biopsy) to make an accurate diagnosis.

Pet Ultrasound

Ultrasound is a noninvasive and painless imaging technique that allows us to see your pet’s internal organs. It’s important because it helps us assess the shape and size of specific internal organs, enlarged lymph nodes, abnormal masses, and more.

Pet Internal Medicine Treatments

As a specialty veterinary practice devoted to diagnosing and treating complex ailments, we provide outpatient treatments that are typically not available at primary care clinics. Plus, while your pet is in our hospital, you can rest assured that they are never alone.

Pet Blood Banking

Many of the serious conditions we treat can sometimes require transfusion therapy. To make sure that each pet who needs a blood transfusion gets one quickly and safely, we maintain an onsite blood bank that’s stocked with lifesaving, species-specific blood and blood components.

What to Expect During Your Pet’s Appointment

After your one-on-one consultation with a specialist, we will answer any questions you may have before proceeding with testing or treatments. We strive to communicate with you openly and honestly, with respect and compassion. A member of our team will call you once testing or treatment has been completed or if there is ever a change in your pet’s condition while in our hospital. In addition, you may call us at any time for updates or if you have any questions.

While your pet is in our hospital, rest assured that they are never alone. We are fully staffed by a team of experienced veterinary professionals, led by board-certified specialists, who carefully monitor and interact with your pet throughout their stay.

Know that your pet is in good, caring, and compassionate hands with the experienced team at Savannah Veterinary Internal Medicine.

Dr. Woods is very caring and takes time explaining his findings and recommendations. He also does not take advantage of customers and only does what he deems necessary.

It was such a relief to bring my 16 year old pup, Haley, to Dr. Woods. Haley had stopped eating and I thought that we might lose her. When we arrived, I was impressed that Dr. Woods had already read all of her records which were extensive. He did a detailed ultrasound and thoroughly explained the results. He asked a lot of questions and was able to figure out Haley’s intestinal issues that our regular vets hadn’t been able to diagnose. I am so appreciative of his knowledge and the incredible care he offered Haley. We are a month past our visit and Haley is doing so much better and back to walking 2 miles per day.

Dr. Woods and his staff are awesome. You can tell they really care about getting your pet healthy. They took the time to walk us through all the processes, medications, and exams. They are also very diligent in following up with how our cat was feeling and answering any questions/concerns we had throughout treatment. Because of Dr. Woods and staff our cat is back to her old self and feeling so much better. I'd definitively recommend them!

Two months ago, my 14-year-old dog began vomiting and suffering from diarrhea. I took him to a local veterinarian in Jesup, but they did not change his treatment or help him get better. For TWO months my pet was miserable. They told me that my dog most likely had cancer and I should consult with an internal medicine veterinarian in Jacksonville. When my co-worker told me there was an internal medicine veterinarian in Savannah, I was delighted to find Dr. Woods. In addition to being in the area, he was able to confirm that my pet did not have cancer, he did not recommend euthanasia, and he was able to make my fur baby feel better within DAYS of seeing him. His knowledge of the field is evident, and you can tell he is passionate about his patients. Dr. Woods spent over an hour in the room with me developing a treatment plan. Dr. Woods goes above and beyond for his patients. He always checks on his patients, even on his off days. Whenever I need him, I feel as if he is just a phone call away. I can send an email/give an update and get peace of mind immediately. I completely trust him. He is very personable, thorough, and patient. I never feel as if he gets annoyed that I call or write him so often because I am worried. Dr. Woods is very easy to talk to and very knowledgeable! He saved my dog. Although I know I have an older dog and my days with him are limited, at least now he is comfortable and does not suffer anymore.

Dr Woods, the best doctor who is very caring for the little fur patients, and took time to explain in detail what happen to my yorkie assuring me he is okay. All the staff attended are also animal loving. I went as a walk in on Labor day weekend and took us immediately and attended my little yorkie Beau. Office is immaculately clean. I highly recommend this place, doctor and staff. Wish this place the very best always ❤️
